ARCHIVE - The Stage Curtain
INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A PRE-QUALIFYING ROUND:
PUBLIC ART / DESIGN COMMISSION FOR THE STAGE CURTAIN OF THE NEW OPERA HOUSE
The Art Committee for the New Opera House has designated the stage curtain of the main theatre in the New Opera House for an art/design intervention, and seeks an artistic solution to this particular commission.
The space is designed as a classical theatre arrangement, with the borderline between the stage and the audience area being clearly defined. The stage curtain marks both the meeting place and the dividing line between the performance and the audience. The stage curtain functions as the pivotal point of the building, both functionally and architecturally.
On behalf of the Art Committee for the New Opera House, The National Foundation for Art in public Buildings invites Norwegian and international artists to participate in a pre-qualifying round, with a view to being invited to a closed competition for the design of the stage curtain.
Artists wishing to participate are asked to send in a presentation outlining their interest in the project. The presentation should be maximum 8, A4 pages. It should include a CV and documentation/presentation of a selection of previous, relevant work in the form of paper photographs or print-outs. No other presentation material will be considered.
The competition will commence during October 2004. The delivery date for competition material will be February 2005.
The Art Committee will invite 4-5 artists to participate in the competition - 2 of these may be included by direct invitation.
The fee for each artist participating in this part of the competition is 10.000 Euros. The materials to be delivered to the competition will be extensive.
The total budget for the art commission is NOK 3 million. The planned completion date is mid-October 2007.
Delivery of material to the pre-qualifying round:
The deadline for delivery is 20th August 2004.
