INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A PRE-QUALIFYING ROUND:
PUBLIC ART / DESIGN COMMISSION FOR THE STAGE CURTAIN OF THE NEW OPERA HOUSE

The Art Committee for the New Opera House has designated the stage curtain of the main theatre in the New Opera House for an art/design intervention, and seeks an artistic solution to this particular commission.

The space is designed as a classical theatre arrangement, with the borderline between the stage and the audience area being clearly defined. The stage curtain marks both the meeting place and the dividing line between the performance and the audience. The stage curtain functions as the pivotal point of the building, both functionally and architecturally.

The Art Committee seeks innovative solutions that break with the traditional concept of a stage curtain in terms of use of materials and design.

On behalf of the Art Committee for the New Opera House, The National Foundation for Art in public Buildings invites Norwegian and international artists to participate in a pre-qualifying round, with a view to being invited to a closed competition for the design of the stage curtain.
