Hyperouvertyr
Foundation stone ceremony September 3, 2004
Linus Elmes and Ludvig Löfgren's project HYPEROVERTURE won the open competition for ideas related to the laying of the foundation stone of the New Opera House.
Their project consists of a musical, performance-related action that will take place during the ceremony itself. The project will result in a concrete object. The aim is for the music itself to leave physical traces in the cement. The project focuses upon music as the foundation stone of the Opera House.
Overtures from 13 operas are laid over one another and condensed digitally into a hyperoverture lasting for one minute and forty two seconds. During the ceremony celebrating the laying of the foundation stone, the sound of the hyperoverture will be transmitted through a specially constructed loudspeaker which is directed at the wet cement. The impression made by the music upon the wet cement will be integrated into the floor of the public foyer of the New Opera House.
